In an effort to test how the basik would handle Cerakote, from an application standpoint through a longevity and wear standpoint, we took 25 pens from the basik.001, basik.002, and basik.003 releases and sent them to our Cerakote applicator. The decision was made to use Blue Titanium (H-185), described as “a teal ocean blue highlighted with shimmering metallics that give this deep color a glistening finish.” due to our Cerakote applicator keeping this color on hand, and it’s popularity. The initial test pens came back and we’ve been using them since April with normal wear on the action and a few nicks and dings from being dropped. Now we’re ready to release these first few Cerakote basik pens to the masses with the caveat that we likely won’t have more Cerakote basik pens until the holidays.

The basik.003 rollerball pen is our most current iteration of our flagship pen designed and manufactured with the intention of being carried in the pocket or purse of everyone that uses a pen. The basik.003 is being released with a capped production run of 450 pens. The basik.003 features a design based loosely around several older aesthetics used on our Karas Pen Co pens and unreleased prototype designs. The lower “grip” area features five concentric machined rings that are reference the EDK pen but are deeper, wider, and slightly rounded compared to the source. The tip sports a deeper machining pass than the grip and a rounded, traditional tip look. The central portion of the basik.003 has the same deeper machining profile as the tip, and the upper body, near the clip, shows five very light concentric machined rings providing a symmetry of design with the grip. The surface itself has the light, fine rings present similar to the basik.001 which allows us to machine the pens faster and provide a uniform finish. Virtually failure-free and requiring minimal maintenance, the basik.003 rollerball pen is a true everyday carry pen.

Everyday Karas unofficially launched on social media in 2017 via collaborations with EDC (everyday carry) small makers and influencers, Everyday Karas is now officially launched via this webstore and corresponding social media platforms. Everyday Karas is a return to the foundation of machined writing instruments designed and manufactured for everyday carry use. Designs take a step back from complexity of form to focus more fully on function. Everyday Karas products will feature minimal parts in an effort to reduce failures and maintenance while focusing on streamlining the manufacturing process with the use of our CNC machining technology. Minimalism and simplicity are NOT the goal; rather they are two reference points as we journey back to the basics of our design language and process will shape the product and categories Everyday Karas focuses on. Everyday Karas will redefine the durable writing instrument for everyday carry use by first identifying what an everyday carry pen "needs" to accomplish. The design and manufacturing will follow suit benefiting heavily from the advances we’ve made in the last thirteen years.

Karas Pen Co is the sister-company of Everyday Karas, founded in 2008 under the Karas Kustoms, LLC formation, and later rebranded Karas Pen Co in 2016. Karas Pen Co began designing and manufacturing pens in 2011 that were initially launched via multiple successful Kickstarter campaigns. Over time, Karas Pen Co migrated away from crowd-funding new pens designs, and focused solely on launching new products directly via the Karas Pen Co website. Karas Pen Co designs focus on machined pens, primarily made out of aluminum, brass, and copper with designs that appeal to a variety of customers from the EDC community to the fountain pen community.
